Norfolk Admirals 2014-15 Media Relations Internship
The Norfolk Admirals hockey club is seeking one intern to assist with the day-to-day operations of the Communications department during the 2014-15 season. This position reports to the Director of Communications.
The Norfolk Admirals are located in Norfolk, Virginia, inside Norfolk Scope Arena. The Admirals are members of the American Hockey League – a professional hockey league only one level below the National Hockey League. The Admirals serve as the top minor league affiliate for the Anaheim Ducks. Admirals Hockey has been a tradition in the Hampton Roads region for over twenty years.
The media relations interns will be provided with hands-on experience within a professional sports and media relations environment. The internship will provide someone who desires a career in sports information or media relations with an opportunity to learn the business side of sports and media while gaining valuable career experience, building a portfolio and enjoying networking opportunities in the process.
Only individuals interested in possibly pursuing a career in the sports industry should apply. Because most successful people in the sports industry begin as fans themselves, an extensive knowledge of and interest in hockey is required. This allows the intern to be more productive, get more out of the experience, and most importantly, publish credible material.

Writing and editing regular feature stories for the Admirals website and periodic features for publications/websites such as the Admirals souvenir program and the American Hockey League website

Brainstorming and pitching story ideas to increase coverage of the Admirals in print, radio, television and online media
Producing, compiling and distributing critical information such as press clippings and statistics to the media and to Admirals management and coaching staff before and during practices and games
Updating social networking assets such as Facebook and Twitter including pre-game, in-game and post-game updates

COMPENSATION AND FUTURE JOB OPPORTUNITIES
Please note that this internship is unpaid. As such, local candidates are strongly preferred. Internships do not guarantee employment with the Admirals upon completion. However, interns who perform at high levels will be given consideration for any positions within the organization for which they are qualified. In addition, interns who perform at a high level will be given recommendations for employment elsewhere.
