Digital and Social Media Internship - Lehigh Valley Phantoms Hockey Team (Allentown, PA)

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms are seeking a Digital and Social Media intern for the 2017-18 season. The selected individual will report to the Director of Digital and Social Media. They will be assigned duties based on their displayed skill set. Duties can include:

·         Helping to create useful, fun, interesting and engaging content for use on Phantoms social media channels during the season

·         Editing graphics / graphic creation inside of Adobe Photoshop or other graphic-creation platforms

·         Using the latest technology to capture photos and videos for use on social media

·         Working closely with staff to assist in posting to social media platforms during Phantoms home games and other events

·         Assisting the staff with capturing replays during Phantoms home games for use inside of the Phantoms365 Smartphone App

·         Assisting with the implementation and launch of the Phantoms Rewards Program

·         Helping to update the Phantoms365 Smartphone App with new, engaging and unique content

·         Writing content for use inside of the Phantoms365 Smartphone App and on social media

The selected individual should be available for game days as well as select practices during the week throughout the 2017-18 season.

The selected individual will possess the following skills:

•        Demonstrated digital or social media experience within their college program (required)

•        In-depth knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, etc.)

•        Journalism and/or interview skills as well as writing in AP format

•        Working knowledge of the game of hockey

•        Knowledge of graphic editing software is a plus (ex. Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, etc.)

•        Professional demeanor and ability to provide great customer service to colleagues, players/coaches and fans in office, arena and locker room areas

•        Attention to detail and a desire to improve and succeed

Potential candidates must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate college program with the goal of pursuing a career in the sports or digital media industry.  This internship is a non-paid position with no relocation expenses or housing allowance. This internship must be for college credit.

Ice Crew - 2017-18 - Springfield Thunderbirds (Springfield, MA)

The Springfield Thunderbirds are seeking dedicated Ice Crew members for the 2017-18 AHL season. Ice crew members are highly recommended to be available for all regular season home games from through April, as well as playoff games (if necessary). 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Assist with maintenance of ice (shoveling, moving nets, etc.) and operating associated equipment as required.

-Assist ice resurfacer drivers by moving hockey nets during and after games.

-Assist with hockey rink and game day related set-up requirements including glass cleaning, dasher board and glass maintenance.

-Perform other duties as assigned or necessary.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

-Experience working in an ice rink setting in front of large crowds is preferred.

-Experienced, proficient ice skaters ONLY.

-Candidates will possess good energy, positive attitude, strong teamwork and communication skills, professionalism, and reliability.

Game Night Intern - 2017-18 - Springfield Thunderbirds (Springfield, MA)

The Springfield Thunderbirds are seeking dedicated, enthusiastic, and community-driven Game Night staffers for the 2017-18 American Hockey League season. This internship will provide participants the chance to gain relevant sports experience in community relations and promotional settings. Duties for the Game Night staff include but are not limited to:

-Participate on the Thunderbirds Game Night Staff assisting with the fulfillment of Fan Experiences and other Community Relations Activities.

-Serve as a liaison with participating groups for game-night entertainment activities ranging from on-ice contests to concourse tables

-Assist in the distribution of giveaways and promotional items

-Manage concourse activites, contests, and data collection practices (Enter-to-Win raffles, etc.)

-Maintain exemplary levels of customer service and assistance with patrons

-Assist at team signings, practices and appearances when necessary.

-Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Broadcast & Media Relations Intern - Stockton Heat Hockey Team (Stockton, CA)

The Stockton Heat are searching for a Broadcast/Media Relations intern for the 2017-18 season. This is a full-season opportunity for you to expand your knowledge in a professional sports setting while networking with others in a similar field. This person will need to be comfortable around the microphone and in front of and behind a camera, and must hold a professional relationship with media staff, players, hockey operations staff, visiting media and NHL scouts and executives. This intern would also be responsible for producing various written and video content for StocktonHeat.com.  A strong interest and knowledge in hockey is strongly encouraged. This is an UNPAID internship.  The intern will directly report to the Director of Communications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute content during home broadcasts and create prerecorded content for road broadcasts
  • Assist with the printing and distribution of game notes and intermission stats
  • Opportunity to do play-by-play for occasional recreational hockey games prior to a Heat game
  • Develop relationships with media members, visiting broadcasters and scouts
  • Creation and distribution of game-day credentials
  • Participate with player/staff appearances 
  • Produce videos and radio interviews for use on StocktonHeat.com and the broadcasts
  • Assist the Communications department in other tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must have an interest in content creation (video, audio and written) and/or broadcasting
  • An interest and knowledge of hockey is strongly encouraged
  • Must have a great work ethic and a great attitude
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision
  • Professional appearance and attitude
  • Must have the ability to walk/run up and down stairs

Game Operations & Community Relations Intern - Utica Comets (Utica, NY)

Game Operations & Community Relations Internship

The Utica Comets are looking for a responsible individual to assist their Game Operations and Community Relations departments. The internship, which lasts the duration of the season, will be a hands-on approach to working in the sports industry, and will involve wearing many different hats that overlap into various departments. The focal point of the internship will be in Game Day Operations and Community Relations, which will entail interaction with fans, other staff members, special guests, charitable organizations, corporate sponsors, and more, on a game day basis.

Game Operations

·       Assist the Game Operations Manager before, during, and after all Comets home games

·       Help in making every home game memorable and exciting to all Comets fans

·       Follow game scripts accordingly. Must be responsible, professional, and punctual

·       Help run and operate the game presentation; provide assistance with in-game promotions such as contests, entertainment, etc.

·       Assist the in-game host in her entertainment and sponsor related duties

·       Assist Mascot with any media time out incorporation and location appearances

·       Participate in and help coordinate on-ice entertainment and media timeout activities

·       Need to be able to work with a team-first mentality

Community Relations

·       Collaborate in the development and implementation of new community events and initiatives

·       Assist with building the presence of the Utica Comets during all external events

·       Assist the mascot at community appearances  

Qualifications

·       Currently enrolled at a college or university, and able to receive college credit for the internship

·       Ability to effectively present and share information/ideas amongst groups, game-day staff members, managers, business partners and all guests at the Utica Memorial Auditorium

·       Any previous experience working in sports, live entertainment events and/or customer service is a plus

·       Candidates must be comfortable working in a loud, fast paced and high-pressure work environment

Requirements

·       Reliable and honest

·       Strong skill set in communications/interpersonal skills

·       Organized, with a passion for working in sports/entertainment

·       Ability to lift Game Operations/Community relations props and inventory (up to 50lbs)

·       Able to commit to all 38 Comets home games, including nights, weekends, and some holidays

·       Ability to stay on your feet for extended periods of time

The internship may require some office hours in addition to the 38 home games (TBD at a later date)

Photography Intern - Utica Comets (Utica, NY)

The Utica Comets are in search of a college student to assist on game days during the 2017-18 season. The photography intern responsibilities for game night operations will be to photograph in-game action on the ice, fans in the crowd, arena signage/sponsorship logos, in-game promotions, intermission acts, giveaways, etc.

Office work will include organizing photographs in folders, uploading photo galleries on team website and assisting with photo shoots.

Requirements:

  • Must receive college credit. This is an unpaid internship.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends

This position is responsible for assisting the Media Relations Manager with day-to-day duties. This internship MUST be taken for school credit.
