Bridgeport Sound Tigers / Webster Bank Arena Summer 2014 Internship Opportunities

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the top affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders, are currently accepting applications for internships for the summer of 2014. As a participant in the Sound Tigers summer internship program, interns learn the inner workings of how to run a successful top affiliate sports organization along with the operations of an arena.

This internship will be a full-time internship, Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm in addition to some weekends and special events. The internship will run roughly from early June to mid-August.
Intern characteristics desired:
• Posses strong organizational and communication (both oral and written) skills
• Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and the internet (any other special program / software usage is a plus)
• Have the ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative
• Able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize
• A professional attitude will be expected

The below department are the available areas for internship positions. They include a brief description of a few of the aspects of the departments’ duties for the summer:
Ticket Operations:
1. Database management – adding new leads (kids club members, raffle contestants), checking for accuracy, research / reporting on individual’s spending habits
2. Creating various ticket promotions for the upcoming Sound Tigers season
3. Box office management – window sales, handle incoming calls, general customer service
4. Merchandise inventory and management
Corporate / Sponsorship Sales
1. Sponsorship fulfillment – making sure sponsors receive everything their deal entails
2. Corporate events – managing tables, representing the organization in the corporate world, obtain perspective client through lead generation
3. Proposal fulfillment – creating sponsorship decks for prospective clients
Group Sales
1. Research prospective groups for the group sales staff
2. Assisting a group sales staff member directly with various tasks in order to make a smooth transaction for the group leaders – creating flyers, dropping off tickets, etc
3. Creating logistics surrounding a “special” group night such as theme, marketing, sales strategy
PR/Media/Community Relations
1. Research daily media clips regarding team, arena, players
2. Manage all aspects of the team / arena social media tools
3. Community events – managing tables and mascot appearances, representing the organization in community, lead generation
Marketing / Graphics
1. Manage and update Arena / Team website
2. Create new marketing tools such as web, print, etc for various department needs
3. Build and manage the upcoming season Sound Tigers Illustrated

Building Operations
1. Assist with all aspects of building management in order to keep arena in proper condition pre & post events
2. Provide inventory for all necessary supplies and equipment for arena operations
3. Aid the arena manager in the coordination of all arena scheduling; help with acting as the liaison with outside arena users in regard to set up, operation and cleanup for events brought to the arena
Digital Media – (Basic Photoshop Ability/Basic HTML ability)
1. Assist with all marketing activities with a focus on our social media, email marketing and website
2. Helping with street team, game night operations and any other duties as the season progresses
3. Experience with professional social media required and experience with video editing and/or graphic design is a plus.

Along with the above summer internship opportunities, there are a many times throughout the summer where all of our interns will collaborate on projects for the entire organization allowing for a broad experience in various areas of our organization.

The Charlotte Checkers are seeking candidates for the position of FALL In-Office Intern.This position offers an inside look at the day to day operations of the Charlotte Checkers Hockey Team. This is a fun fast-paced internship that will add real work experience to your Sports Marketing Coursework.

This position is designed to assist all members of the ticketing, marketing, corporate departments and community events throughout the off-season. This internship is a part time position with a focus on in game presentation and execution. The Checkers internship is a structured opportunity for you to learn, grow, and contribute in a professional setting. The Checkers strive to provide a creative and entertaining platform to reach fans through community initiatives and an affordable-family sporting event.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting in community relations initiatives; generate ideas and programs that increase the team’s overall impact in the community
  • Work ALL Charlotte Checkers games (Weekdays & Weekends)
  • Helping to facilitate off-ice events
  • Fulfilling all donation requests, tracking and managing of donation logs
  • Assisting with the execution of Charlotte Checkers community programs
  • Work alongside with Merchandise Director for inventory, restocking, game preparation, etc.
  • Conducting market research on other sports organizations and potential sponsorship opportunities
  • Creating proofs of performance for all corporate partners

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent required. Ideal candidate is pursuing a college degree in Sport Management, Marketing or closely related field. (Charlotte area University preferred)
  • Successful candidates have some experience in marketing and/or customer service, are innovative, self-starters, independent, demanding nothing less than the best, energetic, and organized while possessing excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, members, and the general public.
  • For credit internship preferred 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The Charlotte Checkers are seeking candidates for the position of Game Operations Intern.This position offers an inside look at the game day operations of the Charlotte Checkers Hockey Team. This is a fun fast-paced internship that will add real work experience to your Sports Marketing Coursework.

 

*This internship is a GAME DAY ONLY position. No office hours required. UNPAID*

 

This position is designed to assist all members of the ticketing, marketing and corporate departments specifically during game days and community events throughout the season. This internship is a part time position with a focus on in game presentation and execution. This position will have heavy interaction with the Checkers’ current fan base.

 

The Checkers will play a 38 game home schedule during the 2014-2015 season, Starting in October and lasting until mid April, 2015. Playoffs can extend the season until the middle of June.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work ALL Charlotte Checkers games (Weekdays & Weekends)

• Assist in planning and preparing game operation activities.

• Works with Marketing Manager and corporate activation department to develop scripts for all games.

• Supports Charlotte Checkers Marketing staff in all pregame or post game events as assigned.

• Assists Marketing Manager with in-game production and promotional activities, including selecting guests for intermission activities and promotions: selecting contestants, Zamboni riders, monitoring interactive concourse tables, coordinating group outings etc.

• Interacts with Charlotte Checkers Hockey Operations staff, TWCA staff, Charlotte Checkers Hockey corporate partners and guests of Time Warner Cable Arena.

• Placing and organizing partner signage

• Partnership activation including concourse marketing

• Assisting staff with promotional giveaways and couponing initiatives

• Assisting the sales staff with in arena fan experiences

• Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Providence Bruins Youth Hockey Public Address Announcer / Social Media Coordinator Internship is an unpaid position from October – April that fulfills a variety of roles within the organization’s Youth Hockey Department. Interns will gain experience working in the PA and social media aspects of the department.

• Communicate with teams, parents, and other Bruins staff members to effectively coordinate youth hockey teams on game-days
• Read prepared game scripts, announce player names, goals and penalties
• Keep an accurate and detailed score sheet for each game
• Assist in scoreboard operations
• Write and edit press releases and feature stories for the youth hockey department
• Assist in the web updates of the Youth Hockey Facebook and Twitter pages, including in-game action shots, score sheets, press releases, promotions, and more
• Various data entry responsibilities as needed

Requirements:

Career growth-oriented sports sales development program, which focuses on developing the skills needed to become an inside sales and customer service professional. Under the guidance of the Ticket Sales Department, the intent of this program is to expand the applicant’s abilities to a level that will merit consideration for a promotion to a full time position within the sports industry following successful completion of the program.  You will be required to submit your availability ahead of time.

Responsibilities:
• Make outbound calls to assigned leads to sell upcoming events and ticket packages
• Answer incoming single game calls with the ability to up-sell callers into packages, and groups
• Ability to work office hours during the week plus all Falcons home games
• Work all home games, plus additional nights, weekends and holidays outside of normal office hours, as assigned
• Represent the organization at in-house events and off-site community events promoting tickets
• Maintain computerized records of all ticket customers and prospects using our CRM data base Archtics
• Provide unsurpassed customer service to prospects and current clients over the phone, in office and at games or other events
• Assist customer service efforts (mailing invoices, tickets, etc…), and other office tasks
