The Providence Bruins Communications Internship is an unpaid position that fulfills a variety of roles within the team’s Communications Department. Interns will gain experience working in the Public Relations, Media Relations and Marketing aspects of the department.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
• Assist in the game-day media operations for all P-Bruins regular season and postseason home games, including press packet organization; press box and broadcast equipment set-up; in-game website updates on providencebruins.com, Twitter and Facebook; distribution of credentials, game notes, lineup sheets and in-game stats to visiting management, media and scouts; and more
• Compile stat packets for distribution to P-Bruins and visiting management, coaching staffs, players, broadcasters and other media
• Write and edit press releases and feature stories for providencebruins.com
• Transcribe coach and player interviews
• Assist in the web updates of providencebruins.com, including game previews and recaps, player biographies, photo uploads and more
• Various data entry responsibilities as needed
• Other duties as assigned
 

OUR EXPECTATIONS:
All candidates must receive college credit and be entering their junior or senior year. All candidates must have exceptional written, communication and organization skills. This is a writing-intensive position as prospective candidates will publish press releases and feature stories and should possess strong writing backgrounds. Candidates must be organized, responsible, punctual and have flexible schedules to work some nights and all P-Bruins home games during the time of the internship.

• Strong knowledge of and interest in the game of hockey is a must
• Must be responsible, punctual and have flexible schedules to work some office hours during the week in the P-Bruins corporate office and all P-Bruins home games, typically Friday nights and Sunday afternoons
• Must possess basic journalistic skills – prior experience writing press releases and/or features is a plus
• Computer proficiency including Internet research, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Microsoft Word and Excel, Adobe Acrobat, InDesign and Photoshop, audio/video editing and html knowledge is a plus
• Excellent research and organizational skills and must be detail-oriented
• Should have strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be a self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision, but also able to work effectively within a fast-paced team environment
 

The Providence Bruins are currently looking for college students to assist on game days for the 2013-14 season. The Game Day Internship currently has no office hours and is primarily a “game day experience” for those looking to enter the sports and entertainment field. Some of the duties to be assigned are:

• Assist in setting up sponsor tables and promotional items
• Assist in distribution of promotional items
• Greet and interact with fans
• Recruit fans to participate in our promotional games
• Assist our t-shirt team
• Perform as “Samboni” our team mascot
• Escort “Samboni” throughout the arena
• Assist our “Enter to Win” tables and sponsor tables
• Assist in creating a memorable experience for fans
 

This is a non-paid position that runs from October-April.
 

School and Performance Group Sales Internship- Providence Bruins (Providence, RI)

The Providence Bruins School and Performance Group Sales internship is an unpaid position that fulfills a variety of roles within the team’s school department.  Interns will gain experience working in Group Sales and Day to Day management of the department.

The Providence Bruins have internship positions available for the fall. The position includes office hours as well as community event responsibilities and totals approximately ten (10) – forty (40) hours per week. The position is non-paid, however academic credit is available if applicable. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in Sports Management, Marketing and Operations.

• Assist in the execution of the organization’s largest and most detailed group sales category, Youth Hockey
• Coordinating youth hockey teams pre-and-post game
• Communicate with teams, parents and other Bruins staff members to effectively coordinate youth teams on game-days
• Assist the ticketing department with Customer Service issues as they arise, including directing any questions, problems and concerns to the appropriate Bruins staff member.
• Coordinate requested donations and player appearances on game-days

• Upload photos taken during Youth Games and E-mail client follow-ups
• Prepare and distribute follow up communication with teams
•Coordinate requested donations and player appearances on game-days
• Assisting the Sales/Marketing Department with promotions during Bruins games
• Prepare and itemize bags for upcoming games
• Maintain and update database of scheduled events and games
• Prepare sales projections and comparisons

 The Providence Bruins Youth Hockey Public Address Announcer / Social Media Coordinator Internship is an unpaid position from October – April that fulfills a variety of roles within the organization’s Youth Hockey Department. Interns will gain experience working in the PA and social media aspects of the department.

• Communicate with teams, parents, and other Bruins staff members to effectively coordinate youth hockey teams on game-days
• Read prepared game scripts, announce player names, goals and penalties
• Keep an accurate and detailed score sheet for each game
• Assist in scoreboard operations
• Write and edit press releases and feature stories for the youth hockey department
• Assist in the web updates of the Youth Hockey Facebook and Twitter pages, including in-game action shots, score sheets, press releases, promotions, and more
• Various data entry responsibilities as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
• Ability to work all 38 regular season home games and other special events
• Must maintain professional attitude, appearance and strong work ethic
• Must be college student, working towards a career in sports management or related field
• Previous Public Address announcer experience preferred but not required
