The Providence Bruins Communications Internship is an unpaid position that fulfills a variety of roles within the team’s Communications Department. Interns will gain experience working in the Public Relations, Media Relations and Marketing aspects of the department.


SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
• Assist in the game-day media operations for all P-Bruins regular season and postseason home games, including press packet organization; press box and broadcast equipment set-up; in-game website updates on providencebruins.com, Twitter and Facebook; distribution of credentials, game notes, lineup sheets and in-game stats to visiting management, media and scouts; and more
• Compile stat packets for distribution to P-Bruins and visiting management, coaching staffs, players, broadcasters and other media
• Write and edit press releases and feature stories for providencebruins.com
• Transcribe coach and player interviews
• Assist in the web updates of providencebruins.com, including game previews and recaps, player biographies, photo uploads and more
• Various data entry responsibilities as needed
• Other duties as assigned
 

OUR EXPECTATIONS:
All candidates must receive college credit and be entering their junior or senior year. All candidates must have exceptional written, communication and organization skills. This is a writing-intensive position as prospective candidates will publish press releases and feature stories and should possess strong writing backgrounds. Candidates must be organized, responsible, punctual and have flexible schedules to work some nights and all P-Bruins home games during the time of the internship.


• Strong knowledge of and interest in the game of hockey is a must
• Must be responsible, punctual and have flexible schedules to work some office hours during the week in the P-Bruins corporate office and all P-Bruins home games, typically Friday nights and Sunday afternoons
• Must possess basic journalistic skills – prior experience writing press releases and/or features is a plus
• Computer proficiency including Internet research, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Microsoft Word and Excel, Adobe Acrobat, InDesign and Photoshop, audio/video editing and html knowledge is a plus
• Excellent research and organizational skills and must be detail-oriented
• Should have strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be a self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision, but also able to work effectively within a fast-paced team environment

The Providence Bruins are currently looking for college students to assist on game days for the 2013-14 season. The Game Day Internship currently has no office hours and is primarily a “game day experience” for those looking to enter the sports and entertainment field. Some of the duties to be assigned are:

• Greet and interact with fans
• Recruit fans to participate in our promotional games

The position includes office hours as well as community event responsibilities and totals approximately ten (10) – forty (40) hours per week.
