FALL 2015 Foundation Internship - Charlotte Checkers (Charlotte, NC)

Position Description

The Checkers Charitable Foundation is the charitable arm of the Charlotte Checkers Hockey Club.  The Foundation manages charitable contributions and fundraising efforts on behalf of the Charlotte Checkers. The Checkers are looking to hire for a nonpaid internship working (30-40 hours per week), with the need to be at all home games and Foundation related events.

Specific Duties

  • Collaborate with donation recipients and partner charities for Foundation related promotions, events, and community appearances
  • Assist in coordination of donation fulfillment and tracking of donation fulfillment
  • Assist with community relations and Charitable Foundation events and sponsorship activations, which include but are not limited to:
    • 50/50 Raffle ticket sales
    • Charitable Partner of the Game activation
    • Pick Up a Book and Read school program
    • Post-Game Skate sales
    • Specialty night awareness activation
    • In game sponsored collection events (Food drives, DVD drives, etc…)
  • Assist with management and implementation of in-game fundraisers
  • Staff the Foundation table on the concourse during game-nights and create opportunities to talk to fans about the work of the Checkers Charitable Foundation.
  • Assist in planning of large scale Foundation fundraising events including an annual Golf Tournament, Bowling event and 2-3 other events.
  • Coordinate with area charities and schools for team community appearances
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Successful candidates are innovative, self-starters, energetic, and organized while possessing excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ideal candidate is pursuing a college degree in marketing, business, sport management, or closely related field.

2015 Charlotte Checkers FALL Internship

The Charlotte Checkers are seeking candidates for the position of FALL In-Office Intern.This position offers an inside look at the day to day operations of the Charlotte Checkers Hockey Team. This is a dynamic, fun, fast-paced internship that will add real work experience to your Sports Marketing Coursework. 

*This internship is UNPAID*
*This internship MUST be completed for college credit*
*Up to FOUR positions will be filled*

This position is designed to assist all members of the ticketing, marketing, corporate departments and community events throughout the season. This internship is a part time position with a focus on in game presentation and execution. The Checkers internship is a structured opportunity for you to learn, grow, and contribute in a professional setting. The Checkers strive to provide a creative and entertaining platform to reach fans through community initiatives and an affordable-family sporting event.


  • Assist in community relations initiatives; generate ideas and programs that increase the team’s overall impact in the community
  • Assist in game operations for ALL Charlotte Checkers games throughout the duration of the internship (Weekdays & Weekends)
  • Help facilitate off-ice events
  • Other beneficial learning objectives as assigned


  • High School Diploma, or equivalent required. Ideal candidate is pursuing a college degree in Sport Management, Marketing or closely related field. (Charlotte area University preferred)
  • Positive attitude
  • Willingness to learn and develop
  • Strong work ethic


  • Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.


  • Flexibility to work long and irregular hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays, as assigned.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however during events, the noise level may be louder than a typical work environment.


  • Internship hours are 10 am to 4 pm with the exception of game days. Please note we are able to work with student schedules given that absences are reported with advance notice to the Internship Coordinator.
