The Charlotte Checkers are seeking candidates for the position of Spring Community Relations Intern.This position offers an inside look at the day to day operations of the Charlotte Checkers Hockey Team. This is a fun fast-paced internship that will add real work experience to your Sports Marketing Coursework.

This position is designed to provide the intern with an opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of the Checkers' marketing and community relations departments. The Checkers community relations internship is a structured opportunity for you to learn, grow and contribute in a professional setting. The Checkers strive to provide a creative and entertaining platform to reach fans through community initiatives and an affordable-family sporting event.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting in community relations initiatives; generate ideas and programs that increase the team’s overall impact in the community
  • Helping to facilitate off-ice events
  • Fulfilling all donation requests, tracking and managing of donation logs
  • Assisting with the execution of Charlotte Checkers community programs
  • Work alongside with Merchandise Director for inventory, restocking, game preparation, etc.
  • Assisting marketing department in executing promotions, advertising and events for theme nights including: Pink in the Rink, Race Night, 80's night, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent required. Ideal candidate is pursuing a college degree in Sport Management, Marketing or closely related field. (Charlotte area University preferred)
  • Successful candidates have some experience in marketing and/or customer service, are innovative, self-starters, independent, demanding nothing less than the best, energetic, and organized while possessing excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, members, and the general public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Flexibility to work long and irregular hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays, as assigned.

The focus of this internship will be to provide an intern with the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of the Checkers Corporate Department. The Corporate Department’s primary responsibility is the execution of corporate partnerships and sponsorships. Interns will have the opportunity to work alongside the corporate sales and servicing team and will be actively involved in the successful execution of the Charlotte Checkers 2014-2015 season.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attending all Charlotte Checkers home games at Time Warner Cable Arena
  • Capturing pictures for partner's proof of performance documents
  • Providing hospitatlity to partners in attendance
  • Conducting market research on other sports organizations and potential sponsorship opportunities
  • Creating proofs of performance for all corporate partners

  • Assist in writing, shooting and editing videos for promotional use
  • Assist in writing, shooting and editing videos for corporate activation
  • Assist in designing internal marketing and print ad material
  • Assist in graphic design for website content
  • Use of Final Cut Pro 7, After Effects and Photoshop REQUIRED

The focus of this internship will be to provide an intern with an opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of the Checkers Ticket Sales department. The Ticket Department’s primary responsibilities are generating awareness and interest in Checkers hockey with a focus on selling and servicing individuals and businesses by maintaining relationships, servicing customer requests and ultimately developing strategies that solidify the overall goals and objectives of the ticket sales department. Interns will be in direct contact with current and prospective group, suite, season and partial plan buyers and will learn the importance of selling and servicing both new and renewal business. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting in prospecting new business
  • Assisting in the development of distribution and lead lists
  • Inputting data into the Checkers' database management system
  • Assisting the sales staff with ticket orders via will-call on game day
  • Assisting the sales staff with in arena fan experiences
  • Assisting the service department with the distribution of materials to season ticket holders and group members
  • Assist in making outbound calls to past customers for database generation
  • Represent the Checkers at community and networking events
