Digital Marketing Intern - Grand Rapids Griffins (Grand Rapids, MI)

Digital Marketing Intern

Purpose:  The Digital Marketing Intern will assist the Digital Marketing Manager with the development, implementation and day-to-day management of the Grand Rapids Griffins social media and digital marketing.

Employment Term & Compensation: This is an internship position. Hours will range from 15-24 hours per week, which will be split between work in the Griffins’ office and online coverage at home for away games. Salary: $8.50 per hour.

Length of Internship: October 2016 – April 2017, with the option to extend through the 2017 playoff run (Terms and conditions of position may be adjusted at any time).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:  Specific areas of assistance will include:

Social Media

  • Assist with the management of the Griffins social media platforms, including writing copy and requesting video or graphic assets
  • Assist with the planning of the monthly social media calendar
  • Assist with the marketing and coverage of special events, such as community events, season ticket member events and external social media promotions
  • Conduct ongoing research and recommendations on social networking and e-commerce trends, tools, products and sites
  • Monitor other teams and leagues for new ideas and to stay informed in the industry
  • Coordinate contests and promotions, including keeping track of winners, communicating and fulfilling prizes
  • Maintain the photo database
  • Assist Digital Marketing Manager with other tasks, as needed
  • Assist with home game coverage, as needed

Away Game Nights

  • Cover all 38 Griffins regular away games & all away playoff games at home via AHL Live online
  • Create and post end of period and final score graphics on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Send game push notifications via the Griffins app
  • Interact with fans posting during away games
  • Schedule broadcast graphics and write copy for game day previews following the game, as needed

Qualifications

  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of digital and social media.
  • Possess a working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop.
  • Must be self-directed and goal orientated.
  • Must have demonstrated superior problem solving skills.

Game Night Interns - Grand Rapids Griffins (Grand Rapids, MI)

Reports to: Ticket Operations Manager
Positions available: 10-12 open positions

The Grand Rapids Griffins, top affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, are looking for energetic, professional, and self-motivated people seeking to gain real-world experience while positioning themselves for a career in sports business, where prior experience is looked at as highly desirable by organizations within the industry. Former interns have gone on to gain employment with the Detroit Red Wings, Nashville Predators, Dallas Stars, Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Brewers, Oakland A’s, St. Louis Cardinals, West Michigan Whitecaps, Detroit Pistons, & University of Michigan among others. The Game Night Intern will be trained in all aspects of ticket processing and customer service. Interns will be responsible for working in the box office on game nights while providing a memorable experience for fans.

Primary Responsibilities:

This entry-level internship will include game-related duties and responsibilities within the Griffins Ticket Operations, Ticket Sales and Game Operations Departments, including:

Ticket Operations

- Assist in Box Office set-up, ticket sales, will call, and customer service duties on selected game nights.
- Participate in the promoting of all Griffins ticket related activities including, but not limited to, the distribution of flyers and name collection materials, and the support of any other ticket sales related programs as determined by management.
- Ensure quality customer service for all Griffins patrons.
- Opportunities to learn ticketing software and the ticket sales process.
- Learn departmental policies and procedures.

Ticket Sales Support & Game Operations

- Assist in the distribution of giveaways and promotional items.
- Manage fan data collection programs.
- Assist in the execution of game night plans including contests/promotions on the ice, the concourse, or in the stands.
- Assist the Ticket Sales Department with various lead generation, marketing research and promotional projects.
- Run payments and assist with post-game jersey auctions.
- Assist with season ticket member benefits fulfillment.
- Work on concourse with staff customer service stations to learn how to facilitate in-game issues as they arise.
- Participate in sales contests, lead generation and other non-game community initiatives.
- Support the guest services booth during weekend games.
- Coordinate and execute afternoon hockey events.

Length of Internship:

·         Supervise the #GriffinsSocial Lounge during game nights

·         Assist fans with taking photos on the photo kiosk

·         Manage the Griffins photo frame and props

·         Approve social media posts from fans that are displayed on the arena video board and TV in the lounge

·         Interact and start dialogue with fans about Griffins social media, including informing them about special social media and ticket promotions and theme nights

·         Assist with in-game fan interaction, including handing out prizes and managing contests hosted at the lounge

·         Reach out to fans passing by the lounge and invite them into the space

·         Come up with ideas for fan interaction at the lounge and coordinate any special props or decorations for theme nights
