Marketing: Game Operations/Presentation
2014-2015 Griffins Promotional Team (Home Games Only) - Grand Rapids Griffins (Grand Rapids, MI)

The Grand Rapids Griffins, the primary affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, are seeking energetic, outgoing and dependable individuals to serve as members of our promotional team for the 2014-2015 season.  This is a part-time position, home game nights only.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with setup and breakdown of all Griffins game operations production elements.
  • Execution of in-game promotions and events including but not limited to; pregame and postgame promotions, stoppage in play promotions, and on-ice intermission activities.
  • Assisting the game operations assistant with all group needs (anthem set up, youth hockey, etc.).
  • Interacting with fans on the concourse and in the stands
  • Selecting fans for promotional games.
  • Working closely with team mascots to entertain fans both during the game and intermissions.
  • Assist with other game related tasks as assigned by Griffins staff.

Qualifications

  • Ice skating ability REQUIRED.
  • 18 years of age or older by September 1st, 2014.
  • Ideal candidates are energetic, personable, and comfortable in front of crowds.
  • Strong communication skills and outgoing personality to interact with fans of all ages.
  • Customer service or marketing experience preferred.  A background in sport marketing or communications is a plus but not a requirement.
  • Ability to stand up to 5 hours at a time.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs.
  • Ability to deal and adapt to frequent change.

Availability

  • Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work scheduled home games including evenings, weekends, and holidays (about 75% of the Grand Rapids Griffins home schedule).
  • Mostly evening hours starting approximately two hours before game time.
  • Must be available for duration of hockey season (October – April) and playoffs (potentially April – June)

Public Relations Intern for Home Games - Grand Rapids Griffins (Grand Rapids, MI)

The Grand Rapids Griffins, primary affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, announce an opening for a Public Relations Intern for Home Games. The internship starts in Sept. 2014 and lasts until the conclusion of the 2014-15 season (April-June 2015, depending on playoffs).

This internship is intended to help prepare the individual for employment with a professional sports team. Previous members of the Griffins public relations department have continued on to work for the Baltimore Ravens (NFL), Berlin Thunder (NFL Europe), Carolina Cobras (AFL), Cleveland Browns (NFL), Denver Broncos (NFL), Denver Outlaws (MLL), Detroit Lions (NFL), Detroit Red Wings (NHL), Detroit Vipers (IHL), Florida Panthers (NHL), Grand Rapids Rampage (AFL), Indianapolis Indians (IL), Lake Erie Monsters (AHL), New York Rangers (NHL), San Antonio Rampage (AHL), University of Florida (SEC) and USA Cycling.

• Availability to work 38 home game nights plus playoffs, plus occasional office hours during the week
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Intense desire to progress professionally within the sports PR industry
• Creativity, exacting attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage a variety of simultaneous tasks and meet deadlines
• Computer proficiency, including Photoshop and web site management
• Self-starting, highly motivated individual with exceptional work ethic and unquestioned dependability
• Personal, professional demeanor
• Astute knowledge of and interest in hockey

Responsibilities:
• Game night responsibilities include but are not limited to press box setup, distribution of media credentials, reporting starting lineups and scratches to the game operations department and media, distributing stats during intermission, and assisting with post-game interviews and multimedia
• Provide additional team coverage for griffinshockey.com by attending practices to write player feature stories and Q&As
• Coordinate the distribution of community program/event materials
• Other duties and special projects as assigned
