Game Operations Intern - Grand Rapids Griffins (Grand Rapids, MI)

Internship Overview:  The Grand Rapids Griffins are searching for a dedicated, self-motivated, creative, and enthusiastic individual to assist in the facilitation of the team’s game operations for the 2017-18 season.  The applicant for this internship should have a strong interest in a career on the event management side of sports.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Assisting with the planning, preparation, and organization of all entertainment aspects of Grand Rapids Griffins home games.

- Assisting in the execution of game night plans, overseeing the promotional team, mascots, and all contests/promotions on the ice and in the stands.

- Staging and maintenance of all in-game promotions and props.

- Researching and developing new promotions and giveaways through various methods.

- Assisting with the booking, coordination, and fulfillment of national anthem performers, Zamboni riders, and birthday announcement requests.

- Completing regular office hours on non-game days.

- Various duties assigned by the Director of Game Operations.

Internship Length: September 2017 – April 2018

Compensation:  Hourly + bonus opportunities.

- Must be currently attending college, preferably with a Sports Management, Event Management, Communications, or Business Administration major.

- Availability to work at least 20 office hours each week.

Video Production Intern - Grand Rapids Griffins (Grand Rapids, MI)

Looking for a creative individual that has an eye for capturing the emotion of a situation through the medium of video and the editing skills to tell a story with that emotion.  

Desired skills & experience:

• Familiar with video formats and methods of compression.
• Know your way around production equipment with the ability to light, and capture quality video and audio.
• Strong knowledge of DSLR cameras and lens systems.
• Experience with non-linear editing systems, ideally Adobe Premiere CC.
• Strong knowledge and experience in Adobe After Effects CC.
• Familiar with OS X and Windows operating systems, specifically file structures and drive formats.


• Assist in the organization of files and footage including logging game footage, and digital storage integration.
• Assist in the production of video content.
• Assist in the uploading and distribution of video content to the web
• Learn from and collaborate with Griffins personnel to assist in fulfilling the department’s video production requests, including the execution of the game presentation for Grand Rapids Griffins games.
• Serve as a production assistant for video shoots (lighting, grip, etc) and editing assistant on certain projects.
• Assist in the preparation of game-day elements (i.e. video features and graphical elements) as directed.
• Potential to serve on game day production crew.
• Assist in the development of the organization’s marketing and sponsorship needs while satisfying individual brand identity.

About you

• You should be positive, motivated, creative, and detail oriented.
• You need to be capable of maintaining a consistent workflow.
• General knowledge of sports and the game of hockey is not necessary but helpful.
• Position requires flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and some late nights as dictated by game and event schedules and accompanying pre-production.
• You are preoccupied with the latest trends in motion graphics, design, and technology.

Event night meals and parking provided. Interns will be asked to put in between 15 and 25 hours a week depending on the teams schedule.
