2014-15 Springfield Falcons Communications & Community Relations Internship

The Springfield Falcons, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets, are currently accepting applications for the Communications & Community Relations Internship during the 2014-15 season. Candidates will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in sports communications by performing game day public and media relations activities, day-to-day communications tasks and assisting with community events. Applicants must receive school credit for their learning experience; there is no monetary compensation.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Work all pre-season, regular-season and playoff home games (weekdays and weekends)
- Assist in pre-game preparation (i.e. media room, game notes, credentials, press box set-up)
- Facilitate needs of media during game (i.e. distribution of line-ups, box scores and other assistance upon request)

- Write press releases and compile game notes
- Facilitate interviews between players/coaches and local media
- Update social media pages
- Assist in the upkeep and design of the team’s official webpage
- Assist in organizing and executing community events (i.e. community programs, player appearances, mascot appearances)
- Maintain constant communication with the Manager of Communications & Community Relations
- Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program pursing a degree in communications, sport management, marketing, business or related field
- Reliable and eager to work in the sports industry
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and attend all home games on nights and weekends
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Knowledge of hockey is preferred, but not required

The Springfield Falcons, top American Hockey League affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets, are currently accepting applications for a 2014-15 Sales and Service Internship. This part-time position will require approximately 20-25 hours per week including all home game nights. Candidates have the opportunity to receive credit for their learning experience; there is no monetary compensation. The internship will take place at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, MA. • Achieve or exceed out-bound call goals to existing or potential fans.
• Answer in-bound calls to provide customer service and upsell seat packages.
• Knowledge of all Falcons product lines including season plans, partial plans and group sales packages.
• Identify and target prospects for group tickets.
• Develop and maintain relationships through unmatched customer service• Maintain computerizes records of all clients and prospects via Archtics.
• Develop and implement theme nights
• Meet or exceed all sales goals
• Regular meetings with management to provide updates on sales activity, appointments, management, and customer service.

Coordinator of Analytics, Team Business Services - American Hockey League (Springfield, MA)

The American Hockey League seeks a motivated, energetic and detail-oriented individual to play an integral role in the continued development of the Team Business Services program launched in January of 2008. 

Reporting to the Vice President - Team Business Services, this individual will play an essential role within the department by providing support on a number of projects including the management of the American Hockey League’s online revenue collection website and the creation of a wide-range of revenue reports. 

The Team Business Services Department uses a wide range of initiatives to deliver best practices to member clubs, including online sales data collection, onsite team visits, business planning, newsletters, conference calls and professional development seminars to support the continued growth of American Hockey League ticket and corporate sales revenues.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and education.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in sports management, business administration or related
  • Ticket sales and/or corporate sales experience in professional sports
  • Passion for data and analytics: prior experience preferred
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills
  • Strong inter-personal and relationship building skills

The individual in this role will be responsible for assisting across several Departments, most notably the Sales & Marketing Department. 

Areas of concentration will include creative services and graphic design, along with assisting with League events, fulfillment of League partnerships, overall marketing/promotional efforts and other duties as assigned. Position reports primarily to EVP, Marketing & Business Development.

Essential Functions:

  • For all departments, coordinate and design all creative materials including digital media marketing banners/messaging, AHL publications, AHL collateral and printed materials, video board graphics, presentations and meeting materials, among other projects.
  • Collaborate with members of all Departments on short and long term digital media and creative needs, goals and objectives on a weekly basis.
  • Support AHL member club game operations staff throughout each season.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of the AHL All-Star Classic.
  • Maintain AHL database for season passes, invitations and other purposes.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.        

Knowledge, Skill and Ability:

  • Graphic Design knowledge and experience working with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • High Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel & PowerPoint).
  • Experience with and knowledge of utilizing digital media platforms.
